Assistant Director, High Performance Computing

The Position

  • Lead the technical services team for the High-Performance Computing (HPC) platform
  • Provide technical leadership on the HPC development with a focus on enabling AI-related R&D activities
  • Manage the customer projects by formulating requirements and objectives, providing resource estimation, defining milestones, identifying risks, handling critical issues, and liaising with the business and IT teams
  • Establish and implement best practices for the HPC technical operations
  • Ensure a smooth and successful transition of the HPC project from the project development phase to the operational phase with comprehensive and up-to-date documentation and reliable maintenance related procedures, etc.
  • Collaborate with the IT operation team to provide daily services and adhere to the SLA
  • Conduct performance tuning and capacity management for the HPC platform
  • Provide technical support and user training for scientific computing, especially in the domain of AI/ML
  • Provide consultantcy services and pre-sales support to the business team
  • Contribute to community engagement activities and develop showcases to demonstrate the use cases of the HPC platform
  • Perform any othe duties as assigned 
     

The Candidate

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, related disciplines or equivalent; Possession of a higher degree by research (e.g. Mphilip or PhD) is an advantage
  • 10 years of hands-on experience preferably in managing and supporting HPC Platforms
  • Higher education or professional qualifications with less experience will also be considered
  • Sound knowledge and experience in Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics, Python, R, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning using HPC Platform highly preferred
  • Strong understanding and hands-on experience with job management, cluster management and high-performance file systems
  • Practical experience in designing and building HPC systems desirable
  • Experience in setting up monitoring and optimization for HPC systems desirable
  • Familiar with the Linux Operating System, including setup and configuration in a large-scale computing clusters/HPC environment
  • Familiar with the Nvidia DGX platform and cluster management software will be an advantage
  • Familiar with Kubernetes platform and able to set up monitoring, logging, and alerting for Kubernetes clusters
  • Experience with setting up and performance tuning on both open-source and licensed HPC applications
  • Knowledge in Large Language Models (LLM) and Prompt Engineering
  • Strong experience in supporting various Research and Development Projects in large enterprises or universities
  • Experience in customer training and providing technical enabling services to clients
  • Strong project and people management skills, with a demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Results-oriented, analytical, and collaborative, with the capacity to multitask and adapt effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent in verbal and written English and Chinese (Cantonese and Putonghua)
