Associate Director, Portfolio Development

The Associate Director of Portfolio Development drives the strategic growth (quantity/numbers and quality/value) of HKSTP startup portfolio through strategizing, aligning and jointly implementing new acquisitions, portfolio support, and exit initiatives with internal & external stakeholders. 
 
The Position 

  • Formulate and lead the research to analyse market/industry trends, competitor activities, emerging opportunities and portfolio gaps to align with stakeholders on strategic direction in building a bigger/richer pool of startups with deeper insights for Hong Kong I&T eco-system
  • Oversee overall startup programmes’ progress towards business goals
  • Develop operational enhancement roadmap and management reporting dashboard covering progress, risk, issues and cost/return tracking against budget
  • Collate ideas and develop initiatives with cross functional teams to prioritize pipeline (identification, evaluation, and intake execution), services and resources offerings to ensure continued support and transparency of the portfolios 
  • Collaborate with HKSTP account management and commercial teams on targeted initiatives to drive startups success on the growth journey, including training and research and development of new programmes and special projects 
  • Recommend and align actionable exit plan with programme/account managers for HKSTP portfolio companies
  • Extend the “eco-system” to external financial and investment communities to facilitate realization of HKSTPIF’s investments’ financial value
  • Build stories, narratives and brand of HKSTP’s eco-system stressing advantages, e.g. access to quality companies, support of HKSTP to growth and ultimately generating superior financial return for being HKSTP’s portfolio companies 
  • Drive learning agenda to upskill teams and startups
  • Perform any other tasks as assigned


The Candidate 

  • A master's degree in business administration, Engineering, Finance, Science, or other related disciplines or equivalent; an advanced degree is preferred 
  • 12 years of work experience, preferably gained in MNC, leading management consulting organization and with a background in asset management 
  • Higher education or professional qualifications with less experience will also be considered
  • Proven track record of global experience in managing and delivering tangible business value through identifying value-adding initiatives, building consensus for opportunities, and aligning stakeholders towards successful execution of cross-functional initiatives 
  • Knowledge of best practices in business incubation, business accelerators, and development principles 
  • Uphold high standards of integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with the public and excellent leadership and communications skills with the ability to lead and team and collaborate effectively with stakeholders 
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills 
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituents in a diverse community and work well in a dynamic and rapidly changing workplace 
  • Exhibit passion and excitement for the work 
  • Good command of written and spoken English and Cantonese including Mandarin
