The Position
Reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer, the role will devise effective communications strategies, build integrated communications plans as well as leading the team to drive innovation and deploy high-impact communications and public relations programs for stakeholder engagement. The scope of work covers international and local communication strategies, executive communications, media relations, public affairs, message and content development and agency management.
This individual will be a senior leader in the Marketing team and a key ambassador of the corporation to build and nurture relationships with the major stakeholders. He or she will also serve as the communications counsel with regards to issue and reputation management. The primary responsibilities of the position are including but not limited to the following:
Communication Strategy & Program Management
- Formulate overall corporate communications strategies to strengthen the credibility and trust in HKSTP by multiple stakeholder groups and wider public; and establish Hong Kong and HKSTP (INNOPARKs, partner companies, talents inclusive) and the I&T ecosystem of Hong Kong as a leading international I&T center in the world.
- Maximize awareness in international and local markets with cost-effective in-market communication strategies focusing on Hong Kong I&T positioning, HKSTP’s partner company’s success and progress of I&T ecosystem in Hong Kong and GBA.
- Lead the Communications team and collaborate with various business divisions to identify target audiences, unique yet evolving messaging, and effective engagement plan with orchestrated tactics, platforms and occasions.
Public Affairs and Media Relations Management
- Establish and maintain good strategic relationships with leading media (both international and local) to build a credible reputation and maximize coverage.
- Contain and manage all potentially damaging news items/events about HKSTP by having critical judgement, assessing and coming up with the best approach for neutralizing the issues, translating HKSTP’s position and messaging clearly through different media channels and tactics.
Team Development & Team Management
- Manage a communications team to support the development and execution of the communications strategy.
- Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.
- Mentor and develop staff using a supportive and collaborative approach on a consistent basis.
Perform any other duties as assigned by the management.
The Candidate
- A bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications or related filed is required; an advanced degree is preferred
- Minimum 15 years’ relevant experience with at least 8 years’ management experience leading a sizable team in corporate marketing communications or public relations management, preferably gained in MNC
- Excellent network with international and local media, strong relationship with key opinion leaders
- Proven track record in issues/crisis management and stakeholder management with good knowledge in executive communications
- Energetic, flexible, collaborative, proactive. Creative and thoughtful on how new media technologies can be utilized
- A confident and persuasive team leader able to work strategically and operationally; drive performance and change; collaborate and work well in a dynamic and rapidly changing workplace
- Experience in building, leading, mentoring, and coaching a team of communications specialists
- Work experience in the I&T industry will be an advantage
- Excellent proficiency in both verbal and written English and Chinese, including Cantonese and Putonghua
- Candidates with less experience will be considered as Associate Director
